Patient Visit

Education

To meet the growing demand for experts in the sub-specialty of pediatric obesity medicine, we have created a fellowship program that offers clinical, surgical and research opportunities. Fellows will be trained in the specialized, multidisciplinary therapies used to address childhood obesity - including behavioral, pharmacological, and surgical options. Upon completion, fellows will be eligible to sit for the American Board of Obesity Medicine exam.

Workshops and Trainings

The Center for Pediatric Obesity Medicine hosts an annual CME-based pediatric obesity clinical treatment workshop in partnership with the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.

Policy and Outreach

Our Center is taking a leading role in the development of future clinical guidelines for pediatric obesity management and spearheading initiatives aimed at standardizing the design of pediatric obesity pharmacotherapy clinical trials. Our efforts hope to streamline the FDA and EMA approval process of new agents, with the goal of getting new therapies to the market quicker.

The Center is also a platform to expand our advocacy efforts encouraging the evaluation of obesity medications through the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act (BPCA), and provides the opportunity to collectively ramp up our engagement with insurers to expand coverage of obesity medications and bariatric surgery for the youth in desperate need of these treatments.
