Why did you choose the UofM Peds Residency Program? This residency program strikes a perfect balance between general pediatrics and exposure to the most sub of specialties without being too large. The program leadership works incredibly hard to individualize your training and support in more ways than you would think! Before my residency interview, I knew nothing about Minneapolis, but I was struck by how fantastic the city is when I landed and fell in love right away.

Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself? I was born in England, and it is 50-50 whether someone appreciates an accent. Those that do must want to do cardiology because I don't think I have one!

Why did you choose the UofM Peds Residency Program? As a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School, I had a great inside view of the residency program during my third and fourth years. While rotating at almost all of our sites during my clerkships, I knew that the program had many extensive, quality learning opportunities as well as a very supportive teachers. I loved that the residency program has such a variety of sites and that the Twin Cities is SO diverse, and I wanted to be sure to have experiences taking care of children in many different life situations. Additionally, I had experienced previous residents to be incredibly warm, supportive, and fun - even in the most stressful situations. Finally, I am the classic life-long Minnesotan - I LOVE everything about Minnesota and love that I am close to family and friends!

All the residents and staff were so friendly and so knowledgeable. I also loved the atmosphere of learning and how everyone seemed to have a growth mindset. Our program director, Dr. Borman-Shoap is also a huge part of the draw of the program - she has a great way of seeing everyone in the program as a learner with an expected growth curve, and also sees each of us residents as more than just doctors, but also as people with personal lives and families that need care and attention. The program is really family-friendly, which I found out firsthand when my daughter was born during the first few months of residency. I just love it here. Minnesota is also where I grew up - it's great to be back in MN!
