Division of Pediatric Epidemiology and Clinical Research


Members of the division are affiliated with the Division of Epidemiology in the School of Public Health and the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota.

Improving the health of children through research in the etiology, prevention, treatment, and outcomes of childhood diseases

The Division of Pediatric Epidemiology and Clinical Research is comprised of individuals with training and expertise in epidemiology, genetics, molecular biology, pediatric obesity medicine, pharmacology, biostatistics, pediatrics, and methodology. Examples of current research projects include:

  • Molecular epidemiology studies of leukemia, hepatoblastoma, myelodysplastic syndrome, rhabdomyosarcoma, germ cell tumor and osteosarcoma
  • Exposure assessment in neonatal blood spots
  • Pharmacotherapy and weight loss surgery studies in youth with severe obesity
  • Mouse models in relation to exposure-disease relationships relevant to pediatrics
  • Dietary intervention in pediatric cancer survivors
  • Bias in studies of pediatric disease
  • Database development and analysis in collaboration with other divisions within the department
