Summary

Mark G. Roback, MD, is a Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is the Co-Director of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine within the Department of Pediatrics and spends his clinical time caring for ill and injured children in the Emergency Department of the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.

Dr. Roback received his BS and MD, and was a Pediatric Resident and Chief Resident at the University of Minnesota and U of M Medical School. He went on to complete Fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. After fellowship, Dr. Roback was a faculty member of The Children's Hospital and the University of Colorado Medical School from 1994-2006. While in Denver, Dr. Roback served as Fellowship and Research Director for the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He also published 2 textbooks on Pediatric Resuscitation and began conducting research studies on Procedural Sedation.

Since his return to the University of Minnesota in 2006, Dr. Roback has continued his work in resuscitation and procedural sedation. He initiated the Mock Code and Simulation Programs for residents, medical students, nurses and faculty and is the director of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support course. Dr. Roback is also the chair of the Academic Track Promotion Committee of the Department of Pediatrics.

Dr. Roback has gained national and international recognition for his research investigations pertaining to procedural sedation. He has published widely on sedation and is frequent invited speaker on the topic. His current interests include tracking and reporting outcomes of procedural sedation and developing benchmarks of sedation care. He recently presented his sedation outcomes work to the FDA and is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians writing group on Unscheduled Procedural Sedation Guidelines.
