She then moved to Rochester, Minnesota for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic. After residency, she worked as a primary care pediatrician at Mayo Clinic. She has also worked as a volunteer clinician and served as a board member for the Rochester Alternative Learning Center (ALC) Clinic, a free school-based health center for ALC students. This formative experience solidified her interest in community-engaged health care and research and underscored the value of community partnerships in improving adolescent health.

Her clinical work, research and advocacy efforts center around adolescent health care services in primary care and community-based settings, including school- and shelter-based health care. She is particularly interested in improving health outcomes among runaway and homeless youth through community-engaged research and advocacy and is leading a community-based study to improve heath among parenting youth living in shelter. She is engaged in medical student, resident and nursing student education, focusing on adolescent mental health, sexual health, advocacy, and social determinants of health. She serves on the American Academy of Pediatrics – Minnesota Chapter Executive Board and on the Minnesota School-based Health Alliance. She enjoys chasing around her spirited pre-schooler, running, hiking, and potlucks with her co-fellows.
